Director Dan Trachtenberg, who managed to inject some much-needed life into the franchise with Prey, returns for Badlands. Hopefully, this isn’t another predictable addition to a saga known for its hits and misses.

One might say his biggest weapon is the sheer audacity to keep this series going. The Predator series has seen its share of ups and downs, and audience patience isn’t infinite. If it’s just a rehash with a new coat of paint, we’d rather rewatch the originals.

The casting of Elle Fanning is, without a doubt, a significant talking point—or perhaps, a colossal question mark. How a conventionally ‘sweet’ actress tackles hardcore sci-fi is a curiosity in itself.

Is it a genuine pivot, or merely a ploy for attention? We shall see. If the plot remains a tired old formula, even the strongest cast can’t save it. Let’s hope this isn’t another instance of female characters being used as mere window dressing.

The search for the ‘ultimate adversary’ sounds grand and intriguing. One can only hope it’s more than just an empty concept, delivering genuinely groundbreaking plot and visual spectacles.

We need an epic showdown, not just another tedious game of cat and mouse. With a 2025 release, there’s ample time to refine the script and special effects. Please, for the love of all that’s sacred, don’t squander the last vestiges of fan expectation for the Predator series. Classic franchises, after all, can only endure so many mediocre sequels.
