Plot Summary
Young girl Shenxiu has lived in a broken family since her mother left. Her world has been shrouded in gloom. Her father is busy with work and distant, and the newly formed family makes her feel out of place. Shenxiu learned to be silent, learned to hide her emotions, pressing all her worries deep inside, like a child who cannot cry.
During a sea voyage, Shenxiu accidentally falls into the water and plunges into a strange and colorful deep sea world. Here, the sky is surging waves, clouds are glowing marine creatures, and colors are vibrant like a dream. She meets Nanhe, the owner of the Deep Sea Grand Hotel - a man who appears flamboyant but has a genuinely kind heart. Nanhe dreams of finding the legendary “Eye of the Deep Sea,” where all wishes can supposedly be granted.
Shenxiu is swept into Nanhe’s adventure. They traverse the colorful deep sea, avoid ferocious sea spirits, and search for that mysterious light. On the surface, Nanhe is a flamboyant, noisy, bragging little boss. His Deep Sea Grand Hotel is shabby, but he always boasts that he is “the most powerful chef in the deep sea.” He wears flashy clothes, makes exaggerated movements, and says unrealistic things - looking like a typical comedy supporting character.
But as the story progresses, Nanhe’s true face gradually emerges. He is flamboyant because he wants to hide his vulnerability; he brags because he wants to give himself confidence. Nanhe is also a person with trauma - he lost his home, lost his direction, but he chose to use “happiness” to fight despair.
The Emotional Bond Between Nanhe and Shenxiu
Nanhe initially saves Shenxiu because he wants her to help with work. But as the journey deepens, Nanhe gradually treats Shenxiu as his own child. He cooks delicious meals for her, tells her stories, and accompanies her to face fears. In the most dangerous moment, Nanhe chooses to sacrifice himself to protect Shenxiu.
